Members of Parliament allied to President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza openly threw thinly veiled jabs at each other over the succession of Speaker Moses Wetangula as Bungoma Senator.
In an event attended by Wetangula on Sunday, October 30, UDA and Ford Kenya lawmakers made it clear that they had no intention to revert to the zoning witnessed in the General Election.
The race pits former Bumula MP Moses Mabonga (UDA) against David Wafula Wakoli.
Kimilili legislator Didmus Barasa, who is elected under the ruling party, openly denounced Mabonga, claiming to speak on behalf of President Ruto.
"I have been given permission by my party leader to support Wakoli for the position of Senator, Bungoma County," Barasa stated.
He was immediately countered by his Webuye West counterpart Dan Wanyama who used a proverbial approach to front UDA as the better option for the seat.
"We are brothers in Kenya Kwanza, but if youwake up and find a wheelbarrow outside your house, you will thank God. Supposing it was a lion instead, what would you do?" Wanyama posed.
On their part, leaders from the Speaker's party, Ford Kenya argued that it only had one sit in the senate before Wetangula was elevated to the third in command.
Wakoli wooed the Bungoma residents stating that he was nurtured by reputable Ford Kenya politicians such as Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and the outgoing senator.
His opponent Mabonga rode on his previous tenure as a Member of the National Assembly was enough proof that he was best fit for the seat.
Wetangula, who watched the fiery exchange between the leaders sat on the fence and stated that he would use his wisdom.
"I want to assure you that between William Ruto and I, we will definitely be able to settle on one individual to run for the seat. We know that Bungoma is our forte and we shall defend it even in the coalition," he said.
Other leaders present during the homecoming of Deputy Governor Jennipher Mbatiany included Health CS Susan Nakhumicha and Governor Lusaka.
Should the Kenya Kwanza alliance fail to broker a deal between the two aspirants, Azimio, which is fronting DAP-K's Wafula Wamunyinyi could reap big.
