Lurambi Member of Parliament Titus Khamala on Sunday, November 13, clarified that he had not ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after visiting President William Ruto at State House.
The Bishop was forced to clear the air after trooping to the House on the Hill in company of other lawmakers from the Western region on Friday, November 11.
Immediately Ruto shared photos of the politicians at his official residence, they were accused of joining Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
He explained that he was on a mission to discuss a road project where a contractor had failed to deliver since retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's time.
“The issue of defections ended way back before nominations, we are loyal to our ODM party because we have a contract with them until 2027. President Ruto is a friend. Our visit to him was all about the completion of projects in our constituency and nothing else,” he clarified.
The MP who ditched Musalia Mudavadi's ANC party in the run-up to the August polls, added that his meeting was successful after he met Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the contractor was dropped.
He vowed to petition Parliament to blacklist the contractor for failing to complete mega road projects in Kakamega county.
Apart from Khamala, the Friday, November 11 meeting was attended by Ikolomani member of parliament Bernard Shinali, former Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and Navakholo legislator Emmanuel Wangwe.
The MPs divulged that they had lengthy discussions with the president and pointed out key projects that were launched by Uhuru in 2016 but were still pending.
In the August general elections, ODM clinched 8 out of 12 parliamentary seats in Kakamega while Amani National Congress (ANC) got the Malava, Navakholo and Shinyalu seats in Kakamega county.
The 8 constituencies that ODM won the seats are; Ikolomani, Khwisero, Butere, Matungu, Mumias West, Lurambi, Likuyani and Lugari.
Peter Salasya commonly known as PK is the only DAP-K MP in Kakamega.
Christopher Aseka of Khwisero,Tindi Mwale of Butere, Oscar Nabulindo of Matungu, Johnson Naicca of Mumias West, Likuyani's Innocent Mugabe and Nabii Nabwera of Lugari skipped the State House meeting.
In the larger Western region, Kenya Kwanza has one governor, courtesy of the people of Bungoma county, who voted in former Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka on a Ford Kenya ticket.
