Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salsya unveiled his newly acquired Toyota Land Cruiser on Wednesday, November 16.

The MP in a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke appeared jubilant as he thanked his constituents for the opportunity to serve them as their representative in parliament and for the support accorded to him since his election.

He noted that the vehicle would help him in executing his mandate to the people of Mumias East and Kenya by extension.

“Finally, KDK037 is out and officially handed. Thank you people of Mumias East for the amazing trust and love you have in me.

I will serve you tirelessly in realizing your dream, and all Kenyans through my committee of agriculture, Regional Development alongside regional integration,” Salasya posted on his Twitter handle.

Previously, the MP was using a car handed to him by former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa. He thanked him too and noted that he would dedicate his new car to serving his constituents.

The Toyota Land Cruiser (LC200) series is the predecessor of the current LC 300. A new V8  2016 model goes for a sum in the region of Ksh10 million, depending on various factors such as milage.

It is fitted with a V8 engine, enabling it to have potent off-road and on-road capabilities.

The purchase of the new vehicle is a continuation of Salasya's rise from humble a background in Kakamega to prominence.

The first-time member of parliament was elected in rather unlikely circumstances based on his humble status.

Unlike other candidates who splashed money in the campaigns, Salasya relied on the goodwill of his constituents on his way to being elected.

Prior to his election, Salasya only had a grass-thatched house to call home. At one point he revealed that he only Ksh500 during his swearing-in at Parliament.

In March 2022, locals in Mumias East joined hands to construct a semi-permanent house for the then aspirant.

However, their efforts caught the attention of former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who chipped in and helped to construct a decent house for the youthful politician.

Salasya, an alumni of Lubinu High School in Mumias, won on a DAP-K ticket, a party affiliated to Azimio. He succeeded Benjamin Washiali, a close ally of President William Ruto.
