A Chinese national was on Wednesday November 16, found dead in his apartment at Sunshine Court, Valley Arcade in Nairobi's Lavington area.
According to police, the matter was reported to the Muthangari police station by the deceased's friend, Hoang Thi Diut.
The deceased man who was identified as Yang Changgui is believed to have died under mysterious circumstances and the cause of death is yet to be established.
"The deceased was 58 years old and had a visible surgery scar on his pelvis and no sign of any injury on his body, several medicines were also recovered at the scene," read the police report.
What puzzled the law enforcers was the discovery of assorted game trophies found at the scene upon conducting a further search of the house.
Officers reportedly found 78 pieces of elephant ivory, two pieces of rhino horns, two pieces of ivory sculptures, a piece of animal skin, 65 pieces of lion teeth and 160 pieces of lion claws.
Under the Kenyan law it is illegal to possess any sort of game trophy and those found to contravene the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013 face strict sentences and penalties ranging from fines of up to Ksh20 million or life imprisonment.
In the past, Kenya has seen increased cases of wildlife poaching conducted by locals and foreigners, threatening the survival of animal species.
World statistics reveal that rare animals fetch lucrative returns on the black market, hence the rise in poaching cases.
Also recovered at the scene were communication devices, stamps and a seal branded 'Huang Xiang Development Limited', a printer, bank cheques and an electric saw.
The body of the deceased was moved to Chiromo mortuary awaiting a postmortem report as a further probe into the case continues.
