Former nominated Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion has not been appointed as Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General termed the rumors circulating online regarding his appointment as fake news.

"Fake stories. I am not aware" Sossion replied to Kenyans.co.ke's inquiry of his appointment to the commission.

Furthermore, Kenyans.co.ke reached out to KNUT's Communications Director Peter Amunga who dismissed the reports circulating online as false and misleading.

"Dr. Nancy Macharia still has a tenure of office,"  Amunga indicated adding that there is an elaborate constitutional process that has to be followed for the selection of a new TSC CEO.

Recruitment of TSC CEO

Section 8(1) of the TSC Act requires that whenever a vacancy arises in the commission, it shall, by notice in the Gazette, declare a vacancy and constitute a selection panel for the purpose of selecting suitable candidates for appointment.

The Dr. Macharia's second term in office started in July, 2020 and therefore she still has three years of her second five-year term at the helm of the teachers' employer.

The process also entails shortlisting and vetting of the applicants before the selection panel submits the names of the most qualified candidates to the President for appointment.

"You cannot just appoint anyone to that office anytime you want to,"  Amunga concluded.

Politician cum Teachers' Defender

Sossion is a staunch defender of the Ruto administration, having decamped from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that had nominated him to parliament to represent workers'  interests.

He unsuccessfully sought for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket to vie for the Bomet Senatorial seat in the 2022 elections.

During the reign of Sossion as the KNUT secretary general, he was always in the cross-hairs with the commission.

The fight between Sossion and TSC escalated in 2019 after TSC deregistered and banned him from teaching in Kenya
