EALA MPs are set to enjoy hefty perks and allowances just like Kenyan lawmakers sitting in both the Senate and the National Assembly.

The MPs are entitled to a monthly gross salary of Ksh1.4 million, including their allowances.

Their gross salary is slightly above Kenyan MPs, who earn approximately Ksh1 million.

The perks are competitive, given their mandate of legislation, oversight and representation.

Winnie, Kalonzo's son, and other EALA MPs will also be entitled to a high-end vehicle which is supposed to be provided by the country.

They will also visit the EALA member countries while executing their mandate. Additional allowances will be provided to facilitate their travels in the member countries.

However, each member state is required to make a contribution north of Ksh840 million per EALA guidelines to facilitate their operations.

There are 45 Members of EALA indirectly elected for a five-year term by their respective National Assemblies.

Their duties entail discussing all matters about the community and making recommendations to the council as it may deem necessary for the implementation of the treaty.

While serving, they may also sit in accounts, agriculture, tourism, legal, regional affairs, trade and investment committees established by EALA.
