Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka's children, Winnie Odinga and Kennedy Musyoka, respectively, were elected to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on Thursday, November 17.

Other seven who joined the two at the Arusha-based Parliament were former Mombasa senator, Hassan Omar, David Ole Sankok, Suleiman Shahbal, Kanini Kega, Maina Mwangi, Zipporah Kering and Falhada Iman.

Lawmakers in the Senate and National Assembly voted on Thursday, November 17, to elect the nine nominees.

Senate speaker, Amason Kingi, informed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula about the House's decision to pick nine Kenyans for the East African Legislative Assembly job.

The Senate and National Assembly's votes were combined against each candidate to determine the winners of the race.

At the Senate, Azimio's Winnie Odinga garnered (35 votes), Kennedy Musyoka (25 votes), Suleiman Shahbal (38 votes), Kanini Kega (29 votes) and FatumaGedi (31 votes).

At the same time, the Senate voted for Kenya Kwanza's Aden Abdidakir Omar (38 votes), Charles Muteti (39 votes), Hassan Omar (46 votes), Falhada Iman (43 votes) and Ziporah Jesang' (37 votes) to represent the country at EALA.

However, Salim Mohamed (0 votes), Kubai Iringo (12 votes), Kuko Jonas (0 votes) and Nyambane Joel (2 votes) failed to make it to the regional assembly after garnering fewer votes at the Senate.

ODM had on Wednesday, November 9, nominated Winnie Odinga, Suleiman Shahbal (Mombasa), Mohammed Diriye (Wajir), Timothy Bosire (Nyamira), Beatrice Askul (Turkana) and Justus Kizito (Kakamega) to EALA.

President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated former Hassan Omar, Zipporah Kering, David Ole Sankok, Fred Muteti and Falhada Dekow Iman for membership in the East African Legislative Assembly.

"It's up to you to select those who will be MPs of the East African Legislative Assembly," the president assured.

The Jubilee party had nominated former MPs Kanini Kega (Kieni), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa) and Ruth Mwaniki (Kigumo).
