A visually impaired man dared to defy the norm and change the narrative using his skillset by seamlessly operating and using technology.
Julius Mbura, popularly known as Julio Supercharge, became an internet sensation on Tuesday, November 22, following his encounter with a cab driver.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Julio explained that the cab driver was amazed at his skills in ordering an online taxi without any assistance. Julio was heading to work where he is a blind car reviewer.
To convince the cab driver, Julio cancelled the ride and ordered as he witnessed.
"The cab driver did not believe that I ordered the ride myself so I had to cancel and order while he witnessed," Mwaura wrote on his social accounts.
Furthermore, Julio paid for the cab using mobile money to prove his proficiency in using online applications and software.
"I decided to pay him via M-Pesa as well just to show him that being blind doesn’t limit me," Julio divulged more details about the interaction.
On how he can navigate a smartphone Julio explains, “I use regular phones but with accessibility features turned on for my navigation, screen reader that is.”
His proficiency was however constricted to specific applications as some did not come with accessibility features for visually impaired people.
Julio divulged that apart from using smartphone and laptop, he could also drive a car as well as ride a bicycle.
“While driving, I must have a co-driver to guide me,” he told Kenyans.co.ke
