KeNHA Announces Closure of Kenyatta Avenue & 13 Other Nairobi Roads [LIST]

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned Kenyans over a plan to close 14 roads on Sunday, November 27.

In a notice dated Thursday, November 24, the authority announced that the roads would be closed to pave way for the planned Technology Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) Autism half marathon event.

The closure will kick off at 1:00am for a duration of 12 hours and 30 minutes. The roads will be re-opened at 1:30pm.

The affected roads include Uhuru Highway from Nyayo National Stadium to Chiromo as well as Raila Odinga Way, Kenyatta Avenue and Upperhill Links Road.

Others are Elgon Road, Matumbato Road, Masaba Road, Bunyala Road, Lower Hill Road, Haile Selassie Avenue, Koinange Street, University Way, Lusaka Road and Workshop Road.

"Technology Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) in consultation with Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and Nairobi City County, pursuant to the Traffic Act Cap. 403 Section 71, wishes to notify the general public that there will be a temporary closure.

"This closure of the roads will take place on Sunday November 27, 2022 between 1.00am to 1.30pm. The closure is to give way to the TESPOK (Technology Service Providers of Kenya) Autism Marathon to take place," read the statement in part.

The authority, as a result, advised motorists to cooperate with the police as diversions will be provided.

"Motorists are advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

"We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused as we endeavor to provide an efficient, safe, and reliable road network," added the statement.

Established in 1999, TESPOK is a professional, non-profit organization representing the interests of Technology service providers in Kenya.

The marathon will include four categories of races from 21km men and women, 10km men and women, 5km wheel chair and 2km for autistic children & CEOs race.

The event is expected to spearhead an initiative that will create more awareness and understanding of Autism across Kenya.

According to the World Health Organisation, one person in every 160 people have autism spectrum disorder. It disorder affects four per cent of Kenyan population.
