Omar Lali, the former lover of the late Tecra Muigai Keroche, watered down claims that he is set to be appointed as Lamu County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Tourism.
Speaking during the Lamu Festival on Saturday, November 26, Lali clarified that county boss Issa Timamy had not approached him, neither had they held discussions on the matter.
"I know that I am among the attractions here and that the governor recognises me but not to the level of being appointed as Tourism CEC or any other role. I personally prefer to maintain a low profile," he stated
The 50-year-old has become one of the greatest tourist attractions with a number of local and international visitors seeking an audience with him.
Notably, the majority are young couples and those in marriages, who seek his counsel on matters relationships.
"While most of the clients are women, a number of men have also come to consult with me. It is a God-given gift and I do not charge for the counsel I give," Lali explained.
He recognised that he rose to fame through tragedy but hoped to give back to the society which has since declared him a 'love doctor'.
Lali admitted that he has also faced a number of challenges during the Lamu festival owing to a stereotype which pit him as a lady's man.
The boat operator was thrown to spotlight after he was listed as a person of interest in the death of the late Muigai in May 2020.
Appearing in court on November 18, he refuted claims that his relationship with the deceased was strained, stating that the two were always in good terms and even planned to get married.
When announcing her death, her family stated that she had died after a tragic accident in Lamu.
A postmortem conducted on the body revealed that Tecra had suffered blunt force trauma on her skull.
