President Willam Ruto lamented spending some time each evening to help his daughter with her Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) homework.
Ruto stated that the different topics covered under the CBC demand more attention from parents.
The head of state spoke at State House on Friday, December 2, while presiding over the swearing-in of Principal Secretaries (PS).
"As a parent, I have pressure from my daughter every evening who needs me to help in this and that assignment," Ruto indicated.
In addition, he advised parents against neglecting their school-going children by leaving all the work to teachers.
"I want to ask all parents that the education of our children is not the responsibility of the teachers but ours as well.
"An hour every day to see the progress of your kid at school and help with assignments, this is not much to ask," Ruto stated.
The Head of State further recalled how different parent-student engagement was under the 8-4-4 system being phased out to pave the way for an all-inclusive curriculum.
'I know in the past, parents did not have much to do in the education of our children, but with CBC, parents have been placed at the centre," Ruto added.
Among Ruto's children are Nick Ruto, Charleen Chelagat Ruto, Stephanie Jepchumba Ruto, June Ruto, and Abby Ruto, his youngest daughter who is in High School.
Despite some of his children's low profile, Charleen Ruto has been in the limelight over her recent tours in different parts of the country. Charleen has also been lauded for empowering the youth and fighting drought and hunger.
Ruto's eldest son, Nick, is an alumnus of Catholic University Of Eastern Africa (CUEA) where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Law.
After completing his course at the Kenya School of Law, he was admitted to the bar.
