Actress Jacky Vike alias Awinja Nyamwalo pleaded with Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja to clear her mother’s pension.

Speaking through social media on Thursday, December 15, Awinja revealed that ten years had elapsed since her mother retired, but her efforts to follow up on her dues bore no fruits.

“The people of City Hall, my mother is still following for her retirement money for almost ten years now, someone tell Sakaja,” she announced.

She added that her mother struggled to raise their family while serving the Nairobi City council, for she would always receive her salary late.

“After my dad passed, mom struggled with us with the Kanjo's salary that would come out after four months or more, but we still survived,” she recalled.

Her mother was forced to venture into other businesses since she was the only breadwinner in the family.

“Mom was into various types of businesses. We used to sell chicken legs. She also had a grocery store, and sold cigarettes, too,” the former Papa Shirandula actress uttered.

The actress issued the appeal while celebrating her mother’s birthday. She showered her with praise for her great efforts to make ends meet and encouraged her to chase after her dreams.

“Can't keep calm, it's my mum's birthday! My Rock, my everything. My prayer is to give her the best life.

"Happy Birthday Mamuu, Mariamu, May the Lord keep protecting you for us. We love you,” Awinja added.

The third born in a family of four lost her father while in high school. She was born and raised in Eastleigh in, Nairobi.

Awinja attended Heshima Primary School and, after high school, joined thespians showcasing plays and other art in various schools.

Though being a talented actress, her mother always wanted her to be an air hostess.

Her mother enrolled her in college, but she would instead attend rehearsals at Kenya National Theater. Through this, she met the late Charles Bukeko, who featured her as one of Papa Shirandula's cast.
