On November 23, all Kenyan schools closed for a lengthy two-month holiday scheduled to resume on January 23, 2023.

With the duration providing freedom to school-going children, parents might be overwhelmed on how to keep their kids engaged and productive over the long holiday.

Kenyans.co.ke compiled a list of ways the parents and guardians can keep their kids engaged over the holidays;

Enroll the Child in a Sporting Class

After a roller-coaster academic year, your child will need a little play to relax before starting another academic year in January 2023.

However, ensure that your child is enrolled in a sport they like because enrolling them in a sport, they do not like it might lower self esteem and attract bullying from other kids.

If your child has shown interest in tennis, find suitable academies where they can hone their skills. If it is football, make sure you also get a good academy same with any other sport.

Monitor the progress of your child to know if they are enjoying the sport. Remember they should be having fun.

Employment

It is never too early to teach your child financial discipline. Find something they can do and offer an allowance.

For example, you can teach them filing documents or creating an invoice.

You can also open them a juice stand at the estate where they can sell and make some cash. Another possible venture would be babysitting or walking pets.

Get Them a Pet

A pet will keep your child engaged over the holiday. You can get them a dog or a cat that they can take care of over the holidays.

Before buying a pet consider the following;

1.      Make sure your child is not allergic to anything that might be aggravated by the pet.

2.      Remember the pet will interact everyday with your kid so make sure it is well vaccinated.

3.      Make sure the pet is not aggressive in a way that can harm your child.

4. Ensure you are ready for the added responsibilities of taking care of both your child and their pet.

Holiday trip

A holiday trip is a good way to bond with your children and create family memories.

If you stay in the city, you can take your child upcountry to interact and get to know extended family members.

You can also take your kids to a national park, beach or other tourist attraction sites.
