Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, December 16 left Kenyatta University graduands in stitches after revealing that he together with the President, William Ruto got their spouses from the same learning institution.

Gachagua who was the chief guest during the University's 52nd graduation ceremony recounted his time as a comrade.

“My return here today is momentous and very emotional, the president and I have an emotional attachment to this university, many years ago when we were at the University of Nairobi, there was a common agreement among us that if you wanted a good wife you go to KU, I do not know if that is true today, he revealed.

"Back in the year 1987, I took a bus number 45 to hang around here, we would go to KM to hover around there, looking around to spot a spouse in a hall called Ruwenzori, I then found a sweet girl, pitched my case, spoke nicely to her, I even recited a poem to her, and with that, I was able to win her over, he remembered.

I am grateful that this university gave me a wife in Dr Dorcas Rigathi, and I have not been disappointed for the last 33 years, she has not run away and has no single scratch," he boasted.

My boss William Ruto also hung around here and sorted himself, you guys do know that the president is a man full of schemes? He also found Rachel Ruto here at KU, our first lady of Kenya,” he concluded.

Gachagua who publicly intimated to be a family man has never missed an opportunity to advise Kenyans on the importance of family.

On November 6, 2022, he
told officers, especially those in administrative roles, to cast their professional “command” aside when they visit their families and assume the role of a spouse or parent.

“If you are an Officer Commanding Station (OCS), please, when you go home, be a good father and husband. Don’t try to run your place like a police station because there will be resistance. Just leave your command outside your doorstep and be a good parent,” Gachagua remarked.

He narrated how after his service as a District Officer Cadet, he would visit his family during weekends and command his way around the house, much to his wife’s noncompliance.

“When I was a young officer for 14 years and I was all over the country and come to see my family on Fridays for two days. But those two days were not enough,

So I took early retirement and came back home. I found a lot of problems because I was still trying to run my home the way I was running my command and there was a lot of resistance,” the DP told congregants.
