IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati invited a team of religious leaders to his home hours before the final presidential results were announced on August 15, according to Anglican Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, December 22, Sapit disclosed that Chebukati has requested them to meet him for special prayers before they could head to Bomas where President William Ruto was declared winner of the August 9 polls.

Sapit stated that they were surprised by the request as they did not know where the chairman's home was located.

"As we headed to Bomas, the chair requested that we meet with him at home for prayers before he proceeded to Bomas.

"We consulted because we did not even know where he lived. We decided that if someone needed prayers, we needed to be with him," the Archbishop narrated.

Further, he described Chebukati as an unsettled man when they got to his home. Sapit stated that the chairman was in the company of his wife and daughter who were also worried.

However, he indicated that Chebukati did not disclose what was bothering him.

"He was very tense, he was walking across his sitting room. The wife and the daughter were in distress. We did not ask what was happening but we could see the agitation.

"We prayed and then he stated that we could go to Bomas together. He was in need of that prayer," he stated.

Chebukati, later on, rode in the motorcade of religious leaders even as they got to Bomas some minutes close to 3pm before he presented the final results to the chief agents.

The Archbishop also intimated that the former vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and her team of other three commissioners also met with them before they left Bomas.

"Close to 3pm they came and walked by us. They greeted us and walked away. To us we thought they were going to where the chairman was," he stated.

The Kenyan Anglican bishop added that after the IEBC fallout, the religious leaders met with the two factions, however, none of the factions revealed what truly caused the difference between them.

Chaos broke out on August 15, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya where Chebukati had gone to release the results of the presidential election.

Chebukati was whisked away by security officers after a section of politicians blocked him from declaring the results.

He later returned to the auditorium of the Bomas of Kenya and declared Ruto as President-elect.
