Royal Media Services Chairman Samuel Kamau(SK) Macharia Sunday, December 25, graced the launching of a modernistic church in his home village of Ndakaini, Murang'a County which his family helped to construct.

The media magnate committed to building a new church for the community to replace the former structure which had been in use since 1950 in December 2021.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Macharia indicated that it was a way of conveying his gratitude to the community for their role in helping him actualize his dreams.

According to Macharia, the church was instrumental in raising the Ksh4,000 he needed to facilitate a trip to the US to pursue his education in a foreign land after his father had only managed to raise Ksh1,200 after selling his property.

However, members of his local church, which doubled up as his school, helped him raise the deficit - a move he noted made him feel indebted.

“The one thing I am grateful to the people of Ndakaini about is how they came together to support me financially. When I wanted to go to the US, the ticket was Ksh.4,000.

My father had to sell everything, and he raised Ksh.1,200, and that money came from organising dances in this area,” Macharia stated.

Decades later, Macharia promised to construct a church to express his gratitude to the members.

In what was a world of a difference from the four-walled building that existed before, the newly-constructed church boasts of state-of-the-art infrastructure ranging from new-fashioned seats to an exquisite interior.

It is fitted with CCTV cameras, projectors, and plenty of tap water. In addition, the new church boasts a carpeted parking space enough to hold vehicles and kitchen space.

Also in the church are modern musical instruments and office spaces which the RMS chair noted would be instrumental to enable the church to meet contemporary requirements.

Members of the church thanked Macharia for fulfilling his promise and upgrading their local church.
