“I have agreed with Governor Nassir that we need to employ Kenyans to take care of the environment.”

I want to assure Mombasa residents that for every 1,000 people Mombasa County employs to keep the environment safe, I will hire 1,000 more,” the President announced to an ecstatic crowd.

The president further noted that he would work with the Mombasa governor and all other governors regardless of political affiliations.

“To combat climate change, we aim to plant 10 million trees in Mombasa Island.”

“I will work with the Governor of Mombasa just like I will work with all elected governors in Kenya to make sure matters environment are not politicized.”

On his part, Nassir remarked that he was willing to work with the President despite their different political affiliations.

"I am going to work closely with the President to make sure that Kenyans and especially people of Mombasa benefit."

"There is a reason that God decided that I be governor of Mombasa and William Ruto be the president of Kenya and so we must unite as political leaders," the first term governor remarked.

Mombasa governor had on December 29, launched a program dubbed ‘Mombasa Yetu Programme’

The program was meant to see the youth work on cleanliness and beautification, safety, and traffic flow.

They will also be offered a chance to work and have experience in the tourism sector within the county.

The initiative had sought to initially employ 2000 youth but with Ruto's promise, 4000 youth will now benefit from the program.
