A woman in Kikuyu, Kiambu County was arrested on Sunday, January 1, after mysterious death of her two children on New Year’s Eve.
The two, a boy aged seven years and a five-year-old girl were found dead in their family home in Kikuyu.
There was suspicion that the boy was tortured before he met his untimely death according to Kikuyu Police Commander Catherine Ringera.
“Police officers found the boy had his hands tied and his head shoved in a bucket full of water.”
“Although the girl’s hands had not been tied, she similarly had her head shoved in a bucket of water,” she narrated.
According to a neighbour who spoke to the media, the mother denied any involvement.
“The mother told us that she heard a knock on the door and when she opened, someone hit her with a blunt object,” the neighbour told the press.
According to the neighbour, when the mother regained consciousness, she found her two kids murdered in the bathroom.
However, instead of the mother reporting the incident to police officers, she went to tell her husband who works two kilometers away.
"We have arrested the mother to aid us in investigations," Ringera revealed.
The bodies of the two children were taken to Thogoto Hospital Mortuary pending an autopsy.
The tragic news came barely a day after a Kenyatta University student was found dead in her boyfriend’s house in Kahawa Wendani, Kiambu County on Saturday, December 31.
