Former Murang’a county governor Mwangi wa Iria on Wednesday, January 4, addressed claims that he had joined Azimio la Umoja Party.

While speaking to the media, the former governor blasted Nyeri county governor Mutahi Kahiga for announcing that he had quit his Usawa kwa Wote party.

Wa Iria condemned Kahiga for spreading fake allegations about him, stating that he will never leave his party.

“There is someone from Nyeri who has been claiming that I am in Azimio. Tell him to keep quiet. I belong to Usawa kwa Wote and I am the party leader,” the former county boss announced.

Wa Iria silenced the Nyeri county boss, reminding him that he would not have been elected as a governor was it not for the demise of Nderitu Gachagua.

“Where were we when I said I belong to Azimio. I don't know why he is talking about me. Keep quiet because I never talk about you

“Leave me alone. If you are a messenger, I command you to keep quiet or I will deal with you,” he uttered.

Wa Iria’s remarks contradicted a move he made on July 19, 2022, where he announced to have joined the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party ahead of the August 9 polls.

While serving his final term as a governor, Wa Iria announced that he had officially dropped his bid for the presidency to support Azimio's presidential flagbearer, Raila Odinga.

"As the de facto Muranga County leader, Odinga called me and we agreed that he will incorporate my manifesto in Azimio. We agreed to work together and now Azimio has Baba, Mama and the son," Wa Iria declared.

He stated that he had made the decision after a two-hour meeting in which he found Raila to be approachable and relatable among all other presidential candidates.
