Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka once again addressed his relationship with Azimio la Umoja coalition party leader Raila Odinga.

In an interview with NTV on Wednesday, January 4, Kalonzo announced that he was no longer going to be Raila’s follower as he had learnt his own lessons.

He described himself as an unlearned person who had not woken up when he supported the former Prime Minister.

“The fool in me ended up supporting Raila for the third time but that fool is wiser now than he was then. I am no fool,” he announced.

Kalonzo explained how it cost him time and energy to make Raila understand and stand by their previously agreed terms.

“I had to sit down with him and bring it out in black and white what we had agreed in writing and from that time I announced that I was ready to support him and it was therefore the right thing to do. I had to bring it out of the chest,” he stated.

The former Vice President made it clear that he was a different person and had buried the old self in the previous year.

“The chicken have come to roast and the naysayers who have been calling me watermelon, those issues are behind us and gone with 2022.

You are now looking at a new Kalonzo, last year was a buffalo soldier it will now be more than that,” he noted.

He further urged Kenyans to stand with him and called for justice to protect him from false accusations.

“I only wish Kenyans peace and justice and ask them to pray for me so that I may not be accused forever for what I have never done,” he uttered.

Speaking about running for the presidency in the 2027 general election, Kalonzo announced that he would not turn down the endorsement if presented.

“We have not sat down as a party. We will call an executive meeting and look at all those issues and develop a consensus.

In the event, we are still around and if my party nominates me to run I will run like I have never run before," he stated.

His remarks came after ex-Makueni County governor Kivutha Kibwana on Sunday, January 1 mounted pressure on Kalonzo to dump the ODM leader ahead of 2027 polls or retire from politics all together.

According to the former governor, the Wiper leader is a regional kingpin living in the shadows of Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, December 31, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua stated that it was high time that Raila endorsed Kalonzo for the top seat.

He argued that Azimio needed to borrow a leaf from President William Ruto and settle on their 2027 flag-bearer early enough and hit the ground running on campaigns.
