Pressure is mounting on former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to ditch ODM leader Raila Odinga or retire from politics all together to save the Kamba nation.

Ex-Makueni County governor on Sunday, January 1 poured cold water on Kalonzo’s expected big announcement that could redefine the country's political landscape ahead of 2027 polls.

According to the former governor, the Wiper leader is a regional kingpin living in the shadows of Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

For his expected statement to cause any political tremors, Kalonzo must cut ties with Raila and the entire Azimio outfit, Prof Kivutha, who joined President William Ruto after August polls argued.

“Kalonzo’s statement would be impactful if it involved him suspending Azimio membership.”

“Raila is not about to retire and in the unlikely case that he endorsed Kalonzo, it is questionable if that would have any impact,” Kivutha remarked in a statement.

After cutting ties with Raila, Kivutha advised Kalonzo to go back to his Ukambani backyard and consult his community before making a new political move.

“Kalonzo has for a long time behaved like colonial chiefs who only advanced their own interests when in power.”

“To change that, Kalonzo has to involve his community’s interests when making a political move,” Kivutha advised the former vice president.

Kivutha further sounded a warning to Kalonzo and the Lower Eastern region political bloc.

“If Kalonzo is not calculative, Kamba community will only be liberated the day Kalonzo fades out of Kenya’s political scene,” Kivutha warned.

On December 31, 2022, Kitui senator Enoch Wambua announced that Kalonzo was to begin countrywide campaign tours in preparation of 2027 presidential election.

"We will start moving across the country to ensure that Kenyans begin familiarizing themselves with the idea of a Kalonzo presidency," the senator stated.

The senator further called on Raila to shelve his political ambitions and instead support Kalonzo Musyoka.

Odinga, however, has ruled out succumbing to pressure from anyone to retire from active politics, signalling a possibility of vying for the presidency in 2027.
