Lafey MP Mohamed Abdiker, on Thursday, January 5, confirmed the airlifting of a woman who Al-Shabaab militants shot in the head.

The woman, identified as Sadia Abdikadir Hassan, was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after her condition deteriorated following the January 3, attack.

"Ms Abdikadir needed a referral to Nairobi for quick intervention. I engaged the Ministry of Health to send an air ambulance, and they responded well," read Abdiker's statement.

While confirming the incident, Abdiker told Kenyans.co.ke that medical officers at KNH were already offering specialised treatment to the lady.

Sadia was reportedly pregnant when Al-Shabaab staged a midnight attack on Lafey Police Station near her home.

"Ms Abdikadir needed to be referred to Nairobi for quick intervention. I appreciate the Ministry of Health's efforts," read Abdiker's statement.

Abdiker confirmed that Sadia was not a target but a collateral victim after the militants staged a violent attack on police officers in Mandera County.

The mother of nine was caught in a crossfire after militants attempted to siege Lafey Police Station in the northeast part of the country, at the international border with Somalia.

As the fight intensified, Sadia was shot through the eyebrow after the gunmen laid siege to the camp for nearly an hour before the police repulsed them.

It is reported that explosions followed by sporadic gunfire tore through the night during the 12am attack.

Al-Shabaab attacks have significantly increased in the country's northern parts following intense fights in Somalia.

Police officers on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, thwarted a planned terror attack targeting a government project worth Ksh143 billion.

Officers from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) foiled the attack following the arrest of a Kenyan national in Tana River County, believed to be in connection with Al Shabaab terrorist group.

The suspect was believed to be the mastermind of an attack targeting Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project in the North Eastern Region, Tana River and Lamu Counties.
