A police officer and a private security guard were left nursing injuries after a colleague opened fire on them.

The Tuesday, January 10, incident happened at a bank in Kisii town where the officers were on money escort duty.

Speaking to the media, Kisii Central OCPD Amos Ambasa noted that another officer manning a different bank called to inform him of the shooting incident at the reported bank at around 10:15 am.

Ambasa further explained how the morning altercation between the officers unfolded.

The critical infrastructure unit officer who was on bank escort duty discharged three rounds of ammunition from a firearm that he was armed with,” the OCPD reported.

He further added how a single bullet ended up injuring the two officers.

“The discharged ammunition after hitting one officer who was a colleague hit his left leg below the knee.

“It went through the knee, hit the wall, and then ricocheted found another security officer attached together on escort duties and got bruises at the back of his palm,” he elaborated.

Investigation officers swung into action and are probing the details surrounding the incident.

This happened even as four other policemen were arrested attempting to rob Ksh2 million from businessmen who had withdrawn the money from a bank.

The two businessmen were leaving a local bank along the busy Mama Ngina street within the Nairobi Central Business District when they were accosted by the officers.

Police reports indicate that the rogue officers claimed that the two were under arrest for an offense that they did not disclose.
