The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) South West Nyanza Branch Chairman Gideon Nyambati on Tuesday, January 10 called for speedy investigations into the murder incidents that have recently soared in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.

Speaking at the Kisii Law Courts, Nyambati condemned the gruesome murders that have continued to spur public outcry in the entire country.

He decried that there were 92 murder cases pending at the High Court in Kisii, but there was only one judge assigned to deal with them.

"As a society, we condemn and call upon the police that whenever they are called they should respond,

92 murder cases cannot be handled by one judge, that is a very big number, the church, the community, and other stakeholders should reach out to members of the public on matters of mental health," he remarked.

Nyambati revealed that the judge was overwhelmed with the piling cases and urged Chief Justice Martha Koome to add at least two more judges to ease the load.

Vice Chairperson Winnie Mireri assured the victims' families that they would support them and give them all the necessary legal assistance they may require.

"We are going to provide all the necessary support to the community as we realise that the root cause of this issue is the mental unwellness of the community," she opined.

"As a society, we have the legal mandate to discharge a certain obligation to the community, which includes legal representation in court and counselling,

We strongly speak against the events that have occurred in our region in the recent past. We are ready to offer legal representation and aid to the victims," she added.

The society equally requested the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki to send a special investigative team to fast-track the pending murder cases since the families of the victims had not been assisted by the police.

There have been increased murder cases in Gusii land in the last three weeks, causing shock across the country.
