Police in Kisii County have launched investigations after the body of a middle-aged woman was found dumped outside the police station on Sunday, March 1.

According to preliminary reports, the victim, believed to be in her thirties was found with deep lacerations around her neck outside Kisii police station.

Police suspect that the incident happened at a different location before the assailants ditched her remains at the crime scene. Activists claim that the victim had been sexually assaulted before she was brutally murdered.

"The body was dumped a few metres from the station, where a young lady was sexually assaulted then killed," one activist stated.

They also raised questions on how the incident happened next to a police station and at a busy section of the town that was surrounded by a number of surveillance cameras.

"There are a number of security cameras, those belonging to the government and those mounted by businesses premises. When this was happening, does this mean that the entire Kisii was asleep including the police?" they questioned.

Area residents noted with concern about the spike in incidences of gender and sexual-based violence against women in the country and called on the law enforcement agencies to expedite the investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Morgue where it will undergo a post mortem to determine her cause of death.

Sunday's incident comes barely a month after the mutilated body of a woman was found enclosed in a suitcase outside the General Service Unit (GSU) Recce station in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

A post mortem conducted on her body by pathologist Dr Simon Omuok, revealed that she suffered strangulation. He further revealed that  Esther Wambui had suffered blunt -force trauma on her head. The body of the woman was found with deep cuts around her neck.

Police took samples to conduct further investigations into the death of the 18-year-old who they suspect might have been sexually abused before being killed.

Her husband, Joseph Ngigi, who was named as a person of interest in the case was picked up by investigating officers on January 23 after the former retrieved mobile phone conversations between Ngigi and Wambui on the day that she went missing.
