Nakuru County government dissolved Naivasha Level 4 Hospital Board following complaints of negligence and poor governance.

The board was sent packing following an uproar from the public regarding the delivery of services that reportedly led to the death of a mother on Tuesday, January 17.

At the same time, residents of Naivasha on Tuesday, January 18, blocked the road leading to the facility to protest the death of the 23-year-old  who had been admitted to the facility for three days.

According to the family of the deceased, the woman was allegedly abandoned by the doctors who left her bleeding for hours after delivery

“She told us that she was trying to reach out to the doctors for help but they were all wearing earphones and could not listen to her when she called,” a relative lamented.

Samuel Mwaura, the County Secretary confirmed the move stating that it was part of the restructuring of the hospital adding that Governor Susan Kihika would be appointing new members.

“The board of this hospital has failed in its oversight role. The county team will be coming in to investigate exactly what transpired," Mwaura stated

Residents complained that many cases had earlier been reported of women losing their lives during delivery and demanded that the government takes quick action.

“In 2022 there was a similar incident that was reported. Another woman had to deliver on the hospital floor because the doctors ignored her. Her baby later died in this hospital.

“Our mothers are hurting in this hospital and no one is taking any action,” a resident stated.

The county secretary admitted that the hospital faced many challenges including staff and medical shortages, which had affected service delivery.

However, Mwaura added that the county was determined to address the issues by hiring more personnel and supplying the hospital with necessary medications and tools.

Mwaura added that the hospital owed suppliers a total sum of Ksh250 million, which made it difficult for the hospital to adequately offer the required service.
