Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi unveiled four areas of partnership with the National Police Service (NPS) aimed at helping struggling cops and their families.

In a statement dated Wednesday, January 18,  NPS outlined that the partnership revolved around mental health, rehabilitation of officers and welfare for widows and orphans.

The statement further revealed that the Office of the Second Lady will offer chaplaincy services to the cops.

Under the chaplaincy programme, cops wishing to get married will get support.

"My office's chaplaincy and family values pillars wish to see a dignified future for police officers in areas such as drug and substance abuse rehabilitation, counselling support, mentorship and training, and widow empowerment.

"The clergy will also help conduct mass marriages for those who are unable to meet the huge ceremony cost," Dorcas stated.

The Second Lady further underscored the importance of the partnership acknowledging the role police officers played in society.

She highlighted the fact that the officers made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the country, a move that saw a number of them lose their lives.

Pastor Dorcas also raised concern over the increasing number of mental health cases within the force.

She explained that the programme would give the officer dignity and the services they need in their day-to-day duties.

“We have envisioned a service that we want to dignify. We may not give money but we will offer our support because we love them.

“Under the programme, we will offer spiritual nourishment and balanced service," she concluded.
