Activist Boniface Mwangi on Monday, January 23, revealed how getting involved in the world of politics affected his personal life.
Speaking during an interview with journalist Mark Maasai on his show, The Social Newsroom, Mwangi revealed that his political engagements have had a negative effect on his children.
The father of three revealed that his children have suffered as they get kicked out of most places due to his political activities.
He further explained that his children gain favor in working on many projects but once the public realizes they are his kids, they distance themselves from them.
“There is a lot that you lose. I have raised very smart kids, My kids could do commercials and adverts but when my kids go for auditions they get canceled,” he noted.
Politics also affected his life in such a way that it became so hard for him to get a job.
“I would ask for a job but when they learn it's my name I get canceled,” he explained.
Being a hardworking man, Mwangi explained that he has been working on his own businesses but has always faced challenges in finding an office because most places don't want to associate with him.
“I have been looking for an office for the last two months but I have to be very careful because if it is a government or politically connected building I will be evicted,” he stated.
In addition, he stated he will never try getting into politics again not unless the manner in which votes are handled is changed.
Revisiting his previous political journey, he revealed that he was never voted for because he failed to bribe the voters.
"Politics have to change, the way they are, is a no for me. I vied with a small party but never won because voters want money. They want to be bribed. They vote for the people with money but after being elected they don’t serve them," he noted.
During the 2022 general election, his party, Ukweli Party, unveiled Nduko O'Matigere, a civil rights heavyweight as his replacement.
Mwangi would then join the Azimio la Umoja as a volunteer campaign having been a big supporter of the then-Azimio running mate and NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua.
One of the losses that he would have incurred was during the attempted bombing on his house sitting in Machakos.
His hardwork saw him becoming part of a cast in an American TV show, Roast House, modeled after a popular American programme.
