Aldai Member of Parliament Marianne Kitany on Thursday, January 25, warned Journalists against what she termed as a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

Kitany was responding to media reports that a court ruling had allowed Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi to kick her out of her Runda home.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Kitany also demanded an apology after Linturi allegedly sent auctioneers to her house.

"I, therefore, demand from the media stations that ran the story a public apology to be published and ran through the same media they published the offensive and sensational headlines with the same vigour and expediency," read Kitany's statement.

According to Kitany, the Cabinet Secretary colluded with media houses to defame her, noting that the headlines were strategically planned and published.

"The media running the headlines deliberately distorted the facts and connived with CS Linturi to create a public impression that the Court had ordered the eviction so that when CS Linturi eventually attempt to illegally kick me out of the house, it would appear to the public eye like a court-ordered eviction," Kitany recounted.

She explained that the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary staged an illegal eviction on her Runda home while she was away on official duty.

"No wonder, immediately the headlines went up, CS Linturi immediately sent auctioneers to my residence January 23, 2023, while I was away on duty in Mombasa who unsuccessfully tried to evict me," Kitany explained.

Justice Maureen Odero on January 20, refused to grant Kitany interim orders that would have barred Linturi from evicting her, pending her appeal of the substantive case on whether they were legally married.

The judge noted that last year’s judgement by Chief Magistrate H.N Nyaga, declaring that no valid marriage existed between the pair, did not warrant issuing a stay order.

“What the court did was to dismiss my application; CS Linturi was not authorised by the court to evict me from the house,” read Kitany's statement.

Kitany asked media organisations to desist from referring to the Runda home as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi's house.

“For the general public's information, I currently enjoy protection orders in Civil Suit No. 71 of 2018 in which the CS has been restrained from evicting or interfering with my peaceful occupation of my Runda home until that case is heard and determined,” KItany claimed.
