President William Ruto held a closed-door meeting with Jubilee Members of Parliament, in what appeared to be a scheme to deflate the opposition.

The meeting which happened on Monday, January 23, saw East Africa Legislation Assembly (EALA) legislator Kanini Kega and lawmaker Sabina Chege lead a section of Jubilee MPs to State House.

Speaking to Inooro TV, Kinangop MP, Zachary Kwenya Thuku revealed during the meeting, they declared their support for the current government.

“We met Ruto to assure him of our full support. We are solidly behind him, that was the main agenda. We want him to deliver to Kenyans with our full support,” he stated.

He emphasized that being part of Jubilee was not an assurance of being on the opposition side.

The MP noted that they felt it would be wrong for the president to fail in delivering his agenda just because he didn't receive mass support from the MPs.

Commenting on Azimio’s rallies, Thuku held that they will not participate in them as they were focused on the country’s development.

“All we want is development. The issue of who is the president, who won or who lost doesn't matter. We are not among those who are talking about elections being rigged. We don't have anything to do with demonstrations,” he noted.

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni made allegations alluding to gross manipulation of results that rigged out Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

He added that they belonged to Jubilee as a party but were not part of the dirty politics which were being carried out by the opposition.

“I have my own stand and am following what Kinangop residents want. Just because we were elected under Jubilee which is in Azimio does not mean we are part of dirty politics.

You will not be seeing us in those rallies. We are not benefiting anything by Jubilee being part of Azimio,” he uttered.

Other MPs who were present included; Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), Amos Mwago (Starehe), Daniel Karitho (Igembe Central), Stanley Muthama (Lamu West), Joseph Githuku (Lamu) David Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), Irene Njoki (Bahati) and Shadrack Mwiti (South Imenti).

After the meeting, the head of state announced that it was important for the leaders to work together.

"We must build a bigger and better team that will work together to effectively prosecute the agenda of the people of Kenya. We cannot move our country forward by leaving others behind," he noted.

During the Kamukunji rally on Monday, January23, Raila announced that demonstration rallies would kick off beginning Sunday, January 29 at the Jacaranda Grounds.
