Cracks within the United Democratic Alliance(UDA) continued to widen following disagreement among Members of the Nairobi County Assembly(MCAs) on the role of governor Johnson Sakaja in the Monday, January 23, Kamukunji's rally by Azimio.

This is after a section of the MCAs drawn from the ruling party came to Sakaja's defense on Thursday, January 26 against accusations of funding the rally.

Speaking to the media, their representative, Kahawa West MCA, Clement Kamau, called on the Leader of the Minority in Nairobi County Assembly Anthony Kiragu, and Waithaka Ward Representative Evans Mwaura Njenga to withdraw his allegations against the governor.

We are giving the two 24 hours to substantiate the allegations in their presser. We also ask them to resign from leadership positions they hold with immediate effect,” he announced.

Kamau further added that they were all on good terms and the two had been funded by cartels to tarnish the Governor’s name.

“We don't agree with what they stated as we are all in a good relationship with our Governor,” he noted.

The Kahawa West MCA further emphasized that they were not part of the presser nor were they consulted before it was delivered.

He noted that Sakaja was concentrating on the county’s development and wasn’t bothered with other irrelevant issues.

“We want to distance ourselves completely from what they announced as UDA MCAs,” he added.

On Tuesday, January 24, a day after Kamukunji’s rally, the leader of Kiragu and Njenga accused Sakaja of working in facilitating the rally.

"He donated a charter hall on Sunday afternoon where groups were meeting during the day to strategize, to mobilize and do fundraising for that event," the Minority Leader stated.

We are aware that he did not just provide the venue but also financed it and money was collected at his private office at Riverside. You can fool some people sometimes but you cannot fool all people all the time," he added.

During the rally, Azimio leader Raila Odinga issued president William Ruto with demands releasing his findings of the August 2022 General Election.
