Six teachers attached to Itumbe Primary School in Kisii County were on Wednesday, February 1, arrested after a video captured them carrying out lewd punishment on two minor boys in the school.

Police Spokesperson Resila Atieno confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the duo was taken into police custody at Nyamache Police Station waiting for further processing.

"(The pupils were) from Itumbe Primary School in Kenyenya Sub-county in Kisii County. Two madam teachers have already been arrested," Atieno stated.

The arrest came after uproar from various quarters criticizing the act and the teachers who sat cheering the terrified pupils on. Consequently, the video reached authorities from the region who in turn took action.

In the video that went viral on social media platforms, the boys were captured in an inappropriate position that left viewers raising questions about the context of the incident.

"It was reported by Nyamache Sub-County Education Director that today at around 9:00 am she received a clip exposing school pupils in an incident act," read the statement from the police station.

On their part, the teachers were laughing and unbothered about the act, some of whom, were already in tears.

In addition, a voice of a man who reports identified as a teacher was heard dictating instructions to the boys though not captured in the video's frame.

The finer details of the incident were yet to be unravelled by the police.

Kenyans had expressed their furore about the teachers' conduct with most of them calling for prompt action against them.

They criticized the duo for what they described as a shock about the teachers' indulgence in such an act.

"This video was seemingly captured in Kisii or Nyamira counties. Teachers are heard enjoying what they are forcing these learners to do. Please CS Ezekiel Machogu, come out and explain what is happening here!" a social media user posted.

"On that unfortunate video of school pupils being subjected to punishment in Kisii County; Are those teachers even normal.? That's very wrong and action should be taken," another one commented.

The Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education had not commented on the matter by the time of this publication.
