Police in Maseno, Kisumu, opened fire on two thugs on a boda boda who attempted to flee with stolen goods.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, February 3, stated that the thugs were accused of being part of a gang terrorising residents in the county.

According to the detectives, the thugs drew a fake firearm to scare the police, who were well-planned to counter them.

Consequently, the warning shot from the police officer caused the driver to lose control and drive the bike into a nearby ditch.

Before the police made their way to the scene, the thugs fled in different directions to avoid being arrested.

"Police in Kisumu appealed to locals who lost the above-detailed goods to report to Maseno police station and identify their valuables," DCI announced.

Some items recovered at the scene include a flat-screen TV set, two gas cylinders, five kilograms and 13 kilograms, two token feeders, an electricity meter, an iron box, and a pair of leather shoes, among other household items.

Cases of thugs attacking unsuspecting members of the public while using motorbikes were on the rise prompting the police to launch a crackdown.

On Thursday, February 2, business owners in Eastleigh cautioned the public over the rampant gangs targeting their businesses.

Additionally, on Wednesday, February 1, police attached to the Huruma Police Station arrested one of the most wanted thugs in the capital.

According to the police, the thug was also being ferried by a boda boda and engaged the police in a high-speed chase near the Kariobangi-Huruma flyover.

Members of the public were urged to be cautious as they conducted their businesses in the streets and to report cases of muggings in the area.
