A photo of a Land Cruiser along Mombasa Road in Nairobi elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans concerned about the conspicuous markings on the luxury car.
From the photos shared on Tuesday, February 7, it was evident that besides the scratches, from what appeared to be a sharp object, the car had profanity inscribed on it.
Kenyans pointed fingers at the motorist's alleged children who may have made the markings noting, "how children show their love."
However, as others lamented over the cost of repairing the vehicle, others argued that the owner could afford the cost to give the coveted SUV a makeover.
Additionally, due to the profanity inscribed on the sides of the high-end car, others alluded that there was a disagreement between the owner and an unknown person.
Speaking to a mechanic, Kenyans.co.ke established that the repair cost varied based on how deep the scratches were.
The mechanic noted that the motorist had two options: buffing or painting the car.
"Buffing cost depends on the size of the car as well as the damage. For a car like Toyota Vitz, it will be an average of Ksh2,000," he stated.
Additionally, according to several auto shops in Nairobi, the average cost of a paint job ranges between Ksh50,000 to Ksh200,000.
However, the price varies depending on the car, the type of paint, and the location of the auto shop.
Some advantages of painting a car include changing its appearance and making it appear new if the motorist intends to sell it.
"The costs to paint a car vary depending on where the work is done, the size and complexity of the vehicle to be painted, and the quality of the paint job itself. Also, custom paint jobs tend to be pricier, especially if you’re prepping your car for a show," Detailers Kenya stated on its website.
