In school, learners are encouraged to be ambitious and follow their dreams regardless of their current situation. With the results of the national exams being announced each year, candidates boldly share their future plans.

Brandon who sat for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) could not wait to join university let alone high school to pursue his dream of being an engineer to change the state of his mother's life.

He scored 398 marks and was lucky to secure a scholarship from a local bank and Affecto Founder Ndungu Nyoro to further his education.

During one of the visits from the sponsors, Brandon surprised them with his craftiness to light up the one-room mabati home he lives in with his mother.

The KCPE star used an old battery, a solar panel, and some wires to power the lights and other items in their house and save his mother the cost of buying paraffin.

In a statement shared by Nyoro, the 14-year-old learned from observing electricians in the estate and a few practical science classes in school.

"He tells me he will be back after four years with a strong A so that he can pursue engineering in a reputable university to give his mother a different taste of life that she has never had all her years.

"Having seen what he has been able to do at his age, and with no professional learning, I have no reason to doubt his promise," the philanthropist remarked.

According to Nyoro, when Brandon is not in school he is out collecting thrown-away items and assembling them while experimenting them into something useful.

Nyoro further urged others not to dismiss the 14-year-old due to the dilapidated state of their home.

"The house is on the side of the road you would be excused to doubt it can support human existence. They are too poor to even afford a padlock," Nyoro vividly described the house.

Additionally, the young man has also connected a fan to the battery to keep the house cool, especially during the current hot weather and heat waves.

"When I got this battery, I wanted to see if it will work . After connecting it with some wires it started working," Brandon stated.
