The National Police Service (NPS) on Thursday, February 9, commenced investigations into the alleged raid on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi's home.

Led by Langata Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Monica Kimani and DCIO, the officers reportedly began recording statements and reviewing the evidence in what Azimio La Umoja Coalition termed a witchhunt on the former Cabinet Secretary.

In the investigations, the officers sought to know the details of the people who raided the home and establish the identities of the people who took part in the attack.

Some evidence that the officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (DCI) were seeking to collect included (CCTV) video clips that experts would review.

The evidence would be transported from the Karen to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters, where Cyber Crime specialists will provide an investigatory report.

At the same time, the officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (DCI) sought to record statements with all the witnesses at Dr Matiangi's home on the fateful night.

The investigation came hours after Police boss Japhet Koome refuted reports claiming that cops were sent to arrest Matiang'i on Wednesday night, February 8.

"I wish to clarify that no police officer under the NPS was sent to former CS Matiang'i residence at all," the police chief explained.

Initial reports indicated that the officers who raided Matiang'i's home were drawn from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

However, EACC chief executive Twalib Mbarak distanced himself from the raid, noting that his team were not deployed to the former CS's home

Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga who arrived at Matiang'i's home minutes after 10 pm, attempted to establish why police officers were reportedly sent to frustrate his ally.

At the same time, Matiangi's lawyers, led by Danstan Omari and Sam Nyaberi claimed that the alleged investigation was unprocedural.

"The police have not declared what they want or what he's done wrong. We do not understand why the police would come to arrest our client in the dead of the night. Why didn't they come during the day?" Sam Nyaberi wondered.
