A team of Israeli contractors allegedly tried to disrupt the August 8 General Elections by hacking into the social media accounts of President William Ruto's close allies.
According to an expose published by the consortium of journalists that included 30 outlets, such as Le Monde, Der Spiegel and El País was run by former Israel special forces operative.
The Israeli guru allegedly used the pseudonym “Jorge” and worked under the radar in elections in various countries for more than two decades.
In one recorded zoom presentation, the Israel Guru allegedly displayed a screen with a Telegram account where he clicked through the contacts, and personal chats of one of Ruto's allies were shown.
The IT guru allegedly proved that he could even use the account of one of Ruto's allies (names withheld) to send messages. But the messages were meaningless and did not affect the outcome of the Presidential poll.
According to the consortium of journalists who exposed the hacking syndicate, Israeli gurus also perpetuated misinformation in the country during the August 9 General Election.
They allegedly used bots to set some political agendas during the campaign period.
The project, part of a wider investigation into the disinformation industry, was coordinated by Forbidden Stories, a French nonprofit whose mission is to pursue the work of assassinated, threatened or jailed reporters.
They gathered information regarding misinformation in Kenya by secretly recording conversations with the Israeli guru and organising meetings.
However, the Israel guru denied the allegations in a separate interview with the Guardian, UK Media publication.
"I deny any wrongdoing," the IT expert stated.
Their report came a day after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga revealed that he used ethical hackers to access Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers.
"We personally looked for IT gurus from abroad who could do investigations. There is something called ethical hacking - which is done with good intentions. They came with their own machines and they were located in Athi River," Raila disclosed.
