The battle to control Nairobi city politics has been blamed for the renewed row between President William Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.
While addressing the media on Tuesday, February 14, embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni asserted that Ruto's inroad in the former ruling party was aimed at ensuring Kenya Kwanza gets control of the Nairobi County Assembly.
Kioni explained that Azimio enjoyed the majority of support in the capital given the number of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) elected on the party led by Uhuru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He noted that Ruto was the first President not to have control of city politics adding that control of the city would help the Head of State stamp his authority.
"One of the targetted units in Nairobi County. We have a President that does not have control of the capital city and that is another plan. They will do everything possible to have this county under their control.
"The plan is to destabilise Jubilee, move it to Kenya Kwanza, and have the majority in the county assembly," he alleged.
Azimio enjoys support in Nairobi a move that has seen Governor Johson Sakaja working with the Raila-led faction in running the county.
On the other hand, Kioni maintained that the move would flop as Uhuru would not work under his successor adding that they were firmly in Azimio.
Kioni also alleged that Ruto's end game was to disband Jubilee in a bid to also control Mount Kenya politics.
"The fear that exists right now is that they are losing people in the region. He lied to people that they would provide better things and that life is becoming harder.
"Can you imagine telling Uhuru to be under Ruto under Kenya Kwanza? Are your brains working? Do you expect Uhuru to sit in a Jubilee PG meeting where Ruto is telling him to disband the party and join UDA?" he posed.
In a bid to address the scramble for leadership within the party following his suspension by the faction allied to Ruto, Kioni explained that the party would resolve the matter internally.
However, he expressed that disciplinary action would be taken against the team led by nominated MP Sabina Chege and EALA MP Kanini Kega.
On the flip side, the Sabina Kega-led team wrote to the to inform them of the suspension of Kioni and Vice chairman David Murathe.
The team was directed to exhaust the internal party dispute-resolving mechanisms before the changes are effected.
