Nairobi residents will continue experiencing sunny and dry days according to the Kenya Meteorological Department weather forecast for February 28 to March 6.

The report released on Monday, February 27, indicated that only five regions in the country will experience substantial rainfall during the week under forecast.

Kenya Met further warned that the country will experience record hot temperatures of 30℃ over most parts of the country.

“Other parts of the region include the South and Central Rift Valley during the first half of the forecast period,” the report indicated.

In Rift Valley, the regions that will receive substantial rainfall include; Narok, Bomet and Kericho, while Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, while Nandi will receive light showers.

Western Region rains are expected in; Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega and Vihiga, which will average 20-50mm.

In Nyanza regions, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and Kisumu will receive high rainfall, with Siaya and Homa Bay receiving light showers.

According to the Met forecast, only some parts of Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Meru counties will receive light showers of less than 20mm. The rest of the Mt Kenya region will generally be sunny and dry.

Wajir and Turkana counties are expected to record the highest daytime temperatures in the country by registering above 35℃.

Nairobi’s daytime temperatures will average 25-30℃ with the same being recorded in Nyanza and Mt Kenya regions.

The weather report came against the backdrop of an earlier report by the Met Department that warned Kenya will receive less than 400mm of rainfall, not enough for a successful harvest.

"We are looking at a situation where the normal crops like maize, will not give us a good harvest,” the department warned on February 22.
