Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor better known as Jalang’o recounted working at his aunt’s bakery, years before he stepped into the limelight.

In a statement on Monday, February 27, Jalang’o detailed how he used to wake up in the morning at 4 am only to prepare dough that would be used to cook Mandazis, Kangumus, and Kaimatis at her aunt's bakery which was then named Paul's.

He used to visit his aunt's place in the Machinjoni area Kitale whenever he was on long school holidays.

“So I would wake up at 4am kukanda unga ya Kangumu and Kaimati! Light up the fire and make the mandazi up to 7 am” Jalango explained.

He would then load his bicycle with the snacks and distribute them to customers.

“First, stop Kwa Maida! then township primary, the union to saint Columbus! I'll then go all the way past the stadium then Swara...ride back to line Moja all the way to total! Then to Chetoto all the way to Kipsongo! Ride back all the way to Kitale day to Robinson academy! I would be on my bike all the way from saint Joseph to Saint Bridget the ride back! Stop at Swam supermarket,” he recalled.

He explained that it had been 20 years before he met his long-time friend Philip Onyamo (Philo) who was a manager at her aunt's bakery.

During the August 2022 election, Jalang'o beat then-incumbent Nixon Koriri to win the hotly contested parliamentary race on an Azimio ticket.

Before joining politics, he made a name in the media, with stints at Kiss FM, Radio Maisha, and Milele FM as a presenter. He also featured in comedy shows.

Jalang'o came under sharp criticism after meeting President William Ruto on Tuesday, February 9 at the State House in Nairobi.

“If you want to see the President on decisions that affect the party you must consult the party. these people must be seen for what they are, traitors," Raila exclaimed in a parliamentary group meeting on Thursday, February 9.

However, Jalang'o maintained that President Ruto invited him to the meeting to address matters of development.

“There is no single campaign that I have not mobilized and been part of, so don't question my loyalty to Raila Amollo Odinga” Jalango clarified.
