Lang'ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o clarified that President William Ruto called him for a meeting at State House on Tuesday, February 7.

Speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Wednesday, February 8, the first-time lawmaker revealed that he was to meet Ruto over a housing project in his constituency.

He added that the project was to commence on Wednesday, February 8, and there was a need to discuss the project's logistics.

Jalang'o explained that upon getting to the President's official residence, he found other Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders there and was asked to join them.

"Remember the President's first project was in Lang'ata and that is why I was there. Ruto called for the meeting.

"I was told to sit with them because I come from the region. Being a leader, it was only noble that I sit with them there," he stated.

The former Kiss FM presenter added that he did not see anything wrong with going to meet Ruto at State House having consulted former Prime Minister Raila Odinga over his meeting with Ruto.

On the other hand, he maintained that Ruto steered clear of politics adding that he was not questioned over his attendance at Azimio's anti-Ruto rallies.

"When the project (housing project) was first launched, I called my party leader and he told me to go if it was development matters. Our party leader has given us the key to work on matters of development," he stated.

Jalang'o affirmed that he was a firm member of ODM and a supporter of Raila. He added that he would attend the planned Azimio rallies, including the one scheduled for Friday, February 10, in Mavoko, Machakos County.

The lawmaker asserted that they would keep Ruto's government in check despite their working relationship on development matters.

He stated that Azimio would continue championing for the reduction of the cost of food among other issues affecting Kenyans.

"We are going to the Azimio Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting from Thursday, February 9, to Friday, February 10, and we will discuss those matters," he stated.
