2 Media Houses Among 109 Companies Shut Down by Govt

The Registrar of Companies, Joyce Koech, announced the dissolution of 109 companies in the country with two media houses - A24 Media Limited and Luft Media Productions affected.

In a notice dated Friday, March 3, the government agency noted that the dissolution of the companies was to take effect from the date of publication.

A24 Media, which was headquartered at the Multimedia University of Kenya, was founded by legendary photographer Mohammed Amin.

The media house specialised in the production of documentaries and other features.

"Pursuant to section 897 (4) of the Companies Act, it is notified for the general information of the public that the following companies are dissolved and their names have been struck off the Register of Companies, with effect from the date of publication of this notice," read the notice in part.

Car and spare part dealers were also included in the list among them Heavy Vehicles and Plant Suppliers Limited, Trans-Wheels Limited, Jayesh Auto Spares Limited and Chiki Transporters Limited among others.

Other companies were Fermont Properties Limited, Freight Forwarders Nairobi Limited, Green Cinamon Limited, Holkenb Limited, Ilara Dairy Limited and Josbet Mattress Limited, Peters Papers Kenya Limited and Satellite Care Services Limited.

Apart from the realtors, other companies dissolved cut across hospitality, medicine and manufacturing among many more.

Pope Benedict XVI Hospital Limited, Promise Pumps and Electricals Limited, Rosario Limited, Sea Resorts Limited, Stressfree General Supplies Limited, and Super Waindi Investments Limited were also targeted. 

On the other hand, 53 companies were also notified of their intended dissolution in the next three months.

"Unless the cause is shown to the contrary, the Registrar of Companies shall strike off the names of the following companies from the Register and they shall be dissolved,' read the notice in part.

According to the Companies Act section 894, the registered has the power to deregister companies that have not been in business or operation over time.

"If the registrar reasonably believes that a company is not carrying on business or is not in operation, the Registrar may send to the company by post a letter inquiring whether the company is carrying on business or is in operation," reads the Act.
