Operatives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Friday night, March 3, gunned down a robbery suspect after the latter resisted arrest in Githurai 44.
According to a statement from the DCI, the slain suspect had tracked down a motorist headed to his residence in Githurai Estate with the intent of ambushing him.
As the man slowed down towards the entrance of his apartment in Githurai Estate, the miscreant sprung from his hiding place behind adjacent stalls and held the victim at gunpoint demanding that he surrenders his valuables.
After ransacking the man and stealing some items, a motorcycle- believed to have been prepared for a getaway - arrived and the robber fled with the rider.
Unaware that their famous fortieth day was beckoning, the suspects sped off, leaving the victim in distress and wandering in search of help.
Luckily for the victim, his distress call reached DCI operatives who were on a routine patrol. They responded and headed towards the direction of the screams in their signature Subaru Outback vehicle.
Meanwhile, the suspects had realized the presence of security agencies and attempted to flee from the scene.
However, the incessant officers charged towards the suspects in the car chase, a move that inflicted tension on the assailants.
"Along the way towards Mokoe Road, they saw a motorbike that made a sudden U-turn after spotting the respected hatchback, whose speed and efficiency in going after thugs has been preserved in a popular hit song," the DCI statement read in part.
As the officers closed in on the bike, the armed thug suddenly disembarked and started running on foot towards a footpath while shooting towards the officers, as the other rode off at top speed.
In their response, the officers returned fire and in exchange shot the suspect.
The sleuths recovered one Czeska pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm calibre from the suspect as the other one escaped narrowly.
Police took the body of the fallen thug to the City Mortuary as investigations into the case commenced.
