A police officer who interacted with a senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer before his body was found dead, on Friday, March 3, stated that he could not recall his colleague showing any signs of distress.
According to the cop, the DCI officer attached in Nyamira County was full of life as they engaged in conversation outside a police station in the Manga area.
Their engagement was cut short after the junior police rushed to the station to lower the National and police flags before 6 pm.
He then returned and realised the senior DCI officer was missing and immediately alerted his colleagues.
According to a report filed in Nyamira, the officers heard a woman who was collecting firewood screaming. They rushed towards where screams emanated from where they found the deceased body on the cliff.
Preliminary reports indicated that his body had a deep cut on the right side of the head. Traces of blood were also seen at the base of the cliff.
It was, however, not immediately established if the senior DCI officer was murdered or if it was a case of suicide.
To establish what transpired, Nyamira Police boss James Mutigo deployed detectives to investigate the case.
"We are yet to gather more on this tragic incident, but investigations are ongoing," he stated.
He also described the deceased as a determined officer who rose through the ranks to his position in the DCI unit.
His colleagues who were yet to come to terms with the mysterious death of the DCI officer also lauded him for his service.
Residents also expressed concern about the mysterious death of the senior DCI officer calling on police bosses to expedite investigations.
The deceased's body was ferried to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
