Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture And Technology (JKUAT) students were on Friday, March 3, forced to sleep in the cold for the second day over delayed allowances.

The students who were attending Kenya University Sports Association Games in Migori County were unable to secure hospitable accommodation due to a lack of finances.

In a video that went viral on Saturday, March 4, the students are seen clinging to each other as they sleep on a bitterly cold night.

Tucked in full attire, the students also slept in a bus that provided temporary shelter for the sportsmen and women.

The students noted that JKUAT was supposed to take care of all their expenses including food and accommodation while at the Kenya University Sports Association Games.

Concerns were expressed that the students may become very sick should they continue spending more nights in the cold.

Migori County, where the Kenya University Sports Association Games are currently ongoing, is experiencing a rainy season.

According to Kenya Metrological Department, the Lake region counties of Migori, Kisumu and Homa Bay were receiving heavy rainfalls and low temperatures, especially at night.

The Metrological Department noted that Migori was supposed to record low temperatures of between 20 to 31 degrees Celsius.

The high rainfall and low temperatures in Migori County risk putting the lives of the JKUAT students in danger should they continue sleeping in the cold.

Kenya University Sports Association Games brought together students from across all local universities that were competing in various categories.

Hundreds of university student-athletes from all over the country normally descend at one location to share experiences and compete for trophies.

A number of university student-athletes have risen to national stardom after recording impressive results at the Kenya University Sports Association Games.

Kenyan best 100 metres athlete, Ferdinand Omanyala, is a student at the University of Nairobi studying Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
