Azimio coalition on Wednesday, March 8, denied any knowledge of attempts by President William Ruto to reach out to his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta in a bid to avert looming mass action.

Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna indicated that the coalition was not privy to the information, urging their supporters to wait for the way forward on Thursday, March 9.

Reports had alleged that Ruto sent emissaries to Uhuru on March 7 to help prevent the protests from taking place.

It was also reported that the former Head of State declined Ruto's request, setting stage for a possible showdown, should the opposition make good on its threats.

"We have no information on that. We cannot address something we are not privy to," the SG stated.

On the other hand, the leaders called on their supporters to await a full statement on an action plan to be taken by the coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Sifuna, who is also Nairobi Senator, noted that the action plan - to be released on March 9- would give a roadmap to address the high cost of living.

On the other hand, Azimio castigated the government for failing to fix the the economy, noting that the Kenya Kwanza government spent most of their time lamenting over the previous regime.

"Months after Kenya Kwanza came to power, day in, and day out, we are bombarded with how bad things were when the Kenya Kwanza regime took over. William Ruto never tires of telling us how President Uhuru Kenyatta ruined the country.

"It doesn't seem to occur to him that he found the State House budget pegged at Ksh4 billion which he increased to Ksh9 billion ostensibly for tea and Mandazi," read the statement in part.

According to the leaders, they would lead protests at specific government offices to demand answers regarding the economy.

"Our question to William Ruto, Gachagua the team at the National Treasury and the so-called council of economic advisers are: When are things going to get better?

"When will the shilling stop falling and losing to other currencies? When will the shortage of dollars end? When will the price of essential commodities come down What is the plan? Can the plan be shared with Kenyans? We are concerned that the timeline keeps shifting," the coalition posed.

Azimio's 14-day ultimatum is set to end at midnight. Raila issued the ultimatum on February 22 for the current administration to address the high cost of living.

Meanwhile, security around State House and state lodges was beefed up with anticipation that the Azimio would lead protests to the president's official residences.
