Adrian Momanyi, 14, went viral online on Friday, March 3, after announcing he will repeat class eight since his family failed to raise the fees.
Following the public outcry, a citizen from the United States pledged to take care of Momanyi's school fees for four years.
The well-wisher was among others who came to the rescue of Momanyi including Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
On Wednesday, March 8, Momanyi was admitted to Kisumu Boys after Machogu directed the education stakeholders in the county to ensure his transition to secondary school.
Machogu assured that the government had taken care of all the boarding needs and learning materials to ensure that he embarks on his studies uninterrupted.
Additionally, an anonymous individual sent Ksh53,000 to facilitate the education of Momanyi.
Momanyi sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2022 at Rabour Primary and scored 369 marks.
Nyanza Regional Director of Education Nelson Sifuna made the announcement informing of the measures taken by the CS to cater to Momanyi's education.
"The CS got this information, he got in touch with field officers and I am happy to report that the boy is already in school. He has been given uniforms, books, and other learning materials," Sifuna disclosed.
"Other well-wishers besides the government, having been touched by the student's plight have committed to take care of his school fees and other requirements," he added.
According to Sifuna, more cases like Momanyi's went unnoticed by the government, and his case was an example of the numerous students who had failed to join form one.
He added that the extra school fees paid for Momanyi will be distributed among other needy students in the school. He noted that four other students had joined the school with less to nothing.
"I want to thank the government, Kisumu Boys fraternity, and all the well-wishers who have come to my rescue. I promise I will not disappoint you," Momanyi vowed.
