Deep inside Masai Mara lies the Mara Plains Camp, a member of the Great Plains owned by Dereck Joubert and his wife Beverly, from Botswana.

Mara Plains Camp offers its visitors a luxurious wildlife experience while guaranteeing privacy and seclusion in one of Kenya's favourite reserves.

It was designed by Joubert who is an award-winning National filmmaker and explorer alongside his wife, a National Geographic Explorer.

A camp's success is in the details," Joubert remarked.

The camp has varying prices depending on the time of the year. During peak seasons, tourists part with Ksh326,700 (USD2,529) per night per person sharing.

This is often between June 15 to October 3 and December 20 to December 31.

However between April 1 to June 14 and November 1 to December 19, tourists part with Ksh167,210 (USD1,294) per night per person sharing.

Additionally, tourists are given a stay for four nights and pay for three special offers.

Some of the activities at the camp include game drives, hot-air balloon rides, bird watching, bush walks, etc.

"The camp lies hidden among the lush green forested banks of the Ntiakitiak River. This tiny camp in the wild is unforgettably luxurious and inviting. It allows its guests to get remarkably close to nature without sacrificing comfort."

Furthermore, rooms at the camp feature large teak Mahogany desks and big wooden Zanzibar doors. They are powered by solar as a way of conserving the environment.

"Our new camps will encapsulate those periods and yet encourage living in the moment and being present. I know you will fall in love here. I do each time," Joubert stated while introducing Mara Camp Plains in 2021.

According to Joubert, the 100-year-old wooden floors at the camp are recycled from railways across Africa and were used to remember the stories of the railway lines.

"I think that our camps should have stories of Africa embedded in them. Touches of history and storytelling bring a camp alive with legend, myth, and romanticism," he added.

On the other hand, Great Plains Conservation focuses on saving wild tracts of land and endangered species and generates revenue for local communities. It also focuses on enhancing habitats and creating premier-class safari experiences.

Besides Kenya, Great Plains Conservation also has camps in Botswana and Zimbabwe.
