President William Ruto and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Wednesday, March 15, announced plans to modernise Kitale Town after the duo held a meeting held at State House, Nairobi.

According to a statement from the house on the hill, President Ruto committed to upgrading roads and fixing sewerage systems within the town of Kitale.

Among the roads set to be upgraded in the programme included the 15-kilometre Kipsongo-Kitalale road connecting Kitale to other strategic towns in the region that was earmarked for upgrading to bitumen standards.

The 75-kilometre Turbo-Barbaton-Kissawai-Endebess road was also earmarked for upgrading in a bid to enhance the transport network of the Town.

In addition, Ruto promised to commit at least 150 acres of land to give room for Kitale Town's expansion.

On concerns relating to health services in the county, President Ruto committed to equipping the Trans Nzoia County Referral Hospital in a bid to boost its ability to offer a wider range of services and enhance efficiency.

The equipment, Ruto noted, would be done within the next three months from the date of the meeting.

In his speech, the President noted that Kitale had been left in a "sorry state despite its huge potential of growing into a city".

Also present in the meeting were Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha, Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei, MPs Lillian Siyoi, Patrick Simiyu, Allan Chesang’ and Ferdinand Wanyonyi were also present during the meeting.

On his part, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya stated that he was prepared to serve the people amid calls for mass action by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

Natembeya, who was elected under the Democratic Alliance Party (DAP), ruled out his participation in the demonstrations led by his Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa and other Azimio principals.

“There is no room for demonstrations in Trans-Nzoia. It is time to work and serve the people,” Natembeya stated.
