The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, March 17, reported that it was intensifying investigations into the death of Jeff Mwathi, after visiting the house of Lawrence Njuguna, alias DJ Fatxo, in Kasarani.

Investigations were progressing to the second phase, where persons of interest in the case will be interrogated.

Several items were collected in the first phase of the investigations as police recreated the crime scene to piece together the last moments of the interior designer.

It was noted that a team of experts were also analysing the same, including the CCTV footage retrieved.

"The first process included interviewing the first cluster of witnesses in the case, forensic examination of the scene and retrieval of CCTV footage that captured the deceased's last moments.

"Several persons of interest will be interrogated and appropriate recommendations made to the Ofice of the Director of Public Prosecutions," read the statement in part.

On the other hand, Kenyans were urged to be patient as the detectives continued with their investigations.

Mwathi's family camped outside the agency's headquarters along Kiambu Road, a few days before the preliminary report was issued. They called on the DCI to quickly unravel their kin's death.

“They should try to speed up the investigations because my daughter is suffering. My daughter (Jeff's mother) travelled from abroad and has been unable to eat. She has not eaten anything today, she only drinks water,” Teressiah Nyokabi, Jeff’s grandmother, pleaded.

Mwathi was captured on CCTV landing on the ground floor of the Kasarani apartments on February 22, minutes after 5 am. However, the exact point of the building where he fell was not captured.

Upon his death, reports of potential suicide emerged even as the deceased's family claimed foul play.

At his death, Mwathi was in the company of Fatxo's cousin and another unidentified man at the Kasarani apartments.

Reports indicated that the DJ was not in the building as he had escorted two girls back home. The DJ found the body of the deceased upon arriving at the apartments.

"After coming home and realising that Jeff was not with them, I was the one who went to the police station to report that he was missing," the DJ stated at a past press event.
